It is easy to reorganize your home when your feeling inspired, but come mid-week when you're tired, uninspired, and frankly don't care at the moment if your coat is draped over the couch or hung neatly in its place. That is until the weekend comes around, or your mother in law invites herself over and suddenly that one thing you put to the side has become 10 and you have to reorganize everything. Here are a few tips to help you stay organized, even when your feeling like messy is the new black.
1. Make a list of 3 things you will do every day. For example, you may load/unload the dishwasher, hang/pick up your clothes, and make the bed. Think of three easy tasks that you can commit to. Most of the time things fall out of place because a million little things were ignored. Who knows, maybe it will spark the cleaning bug in you again!
2. Set reminders on your phone. Some days are busier than others and there is nothing worse than lying down in bed and remembering you forgot to start the dishwasher. Put your smart device to work and set reminders for a time that works best for you whether it is first thing in the morning or an hour before you go to bed, anything to avoid being woken up in the middle of the night because you just remembered you forgot something.
3. Declutter and give everything a home. We all have secret places to stash items we never use. A drawer, a closet, maybe under the bed... you know your spot. Declutter it. If you haven't used it in the past 6 months, get rid of it. You can sell items on local apps like Nextdoor, donate them to a nearby Goodwill, or put them in storage for a time when you do need them. Once you have decluttered, give all of your belongings a designated space. It is much easier to return items to their home than have to revisit your secret stashing spot to reorganize each month.
