Here at A-1 Self Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our customers is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with team member Dana, who is celebrating her 1-year anniversary with A-1 Self Storage.
Dana works at A-1 Self Storage in San Jose, California on Senter Road.
Shannon: Congratulations on your first year with A-1 Self Storage!
Dana: Thank you.
Shannon: Where were you a year ago from now? What kind of job did you have?
Dana: I was actually working in storage. I was managing two sites for three and a half years at another self storage company.
Shannon: Were there a lot of differences when you changed companies, or was it pretty similar since you stayed in the self storage industry?
Dana: A lot of similarities, but there also a few differences from working at a mom and pop shop to working at a larger organization. Things that I did on my own are done differently here because there are so many locations. A-1 Self Storage is better at following through on prospects.
Shannon: Interesting. Have you had anyone that has been especially helpful during your first year at the facility?
Dana: Chris. He’s an amazing teacher. He does a really good job. He’s the manager here at this facility and he trained me. He gives very clear instruction, and good examples. He’s good about following through on intricate ways of getting things done.
Shannon: That’s great! Do you feel like you’re ready to handle the shop on your own now?
Dana: For sure! If I had to, I could.
Shannon: Awesome. Do you have any advice for anyone interested in getting into the storage industry, or interested in working for A-1 Self Storage?
Dana: Be open to new information. Be willing to learn new processes, especially If you’re coming from self storage already like I did. Also, be prepared to be the best at customer service
Shannon: That’s fantastic advice! Now I’d like to move a little away from self storage and learn more about you. Do you have family in the area, or hobbies you like to do?
Dana: I have five grandkids. Three that live here, and two that live in Nashville, Tennessee. We do a lot of barbecuing, we go to the beach a lot, and enjoy watching sports.
Shannon: Sounds great! Who are your favorite teams?
Dana: Our teams are the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.
Shannon: Are you from California Originally?
Dana: I’m born and bred California. My daughter and her husband moved their family out to Nashville for better opportunities.
Shannon: Are there any spots near the facility that you recommend people should stop by?
Dana: Monterey Bay, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. I lived in Santa Cruz and it is absolutely a beautiful place. There are a boatload of restaurants everywhere.
Shannon: What is your favorite restaurant?
Dana: In Santa Cruz, the Shadowbrook. They have Mediterranean, American, and other high-end cuisine. A small cable car brings you up the hill and It looks over an inlet. It’s very romantic and the view is stunning.
