Here at A-1 Self Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our customers is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with team member Maricela Mendez, who is celebrating her 10-year anniversary with A-1 Self Storage.
You can meet Maricela at A-1 Self Storage on Harbor Boulevard in Fountain Valley, California.
Colby: Hi Maricela, remind me what anniversary are you going into?
Maricela: It’s my tenth year.
Colby: Have you always worked at the same location in your ten years there or have you moved around a little?
Maricela: I have moved around a bit. I worked at two different locations. I started working in Lake Forest, and when they opened this store I started working here.
Colby: What advice would you give somebody if they were applying to A-1 Self Storage and it was their first time working in self storage?
Maricela: Patience. There’s a lot to learn, and some of your learning you might read about or research, but a lot more of it is going to come from experience on the job, because every situation is different. The key is patience and it takes time.
Colby: Do you have a favorite story that you tell people when they ask what it’s like to work at A-1 Self Storage?
Maricela: Well, not really. But it all comes down to the customers. How you present yourself, how you communicate and how they react. Those are the kinds of things that make good stories or matter to me. Being polite and helpful leads to them trusting you and being less defensive. Sometimes you will even have customers that aren’t initially friendly, but they come around after a while.
Colby: Outside of self storage, what are your favorite hobbies or places around town to have fun?
Maricela: I like discovering a lot of mom and me places to take my daughter to and just work her out. We go on a lot of walks to the park, or they opened a new jump house in Huntington Beach that I have been meaning to take her to. This summer there are a lot of mommy-and-me activities like swim classes and gymnastic for babies. I also like cooking and crochet.
Colby: What would you say is your go to restaurant in the area.
Maricela: I like eating at Karl Strauss, they are a brewery. They have great beer and a good selection of entrees.
Colby: Cool, I might need to try that. Last question! Is there anyone you would like to give a shout out to that might have helped you out along the way in your ten years with A-1 Self Storage?
Maricela: All the floaters. They’re always a bunch of help when they’re here and they’re always willing to do whatever you ask them to.
