Here at A-1 Self Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our customers is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with Corina, who is celebrating her 16-year anniversary with A-1 Self Storage.
Corina works at A-1 Self Storage on Baroni Avenue in San Jose, CA.
Afton: Hey, Corina! Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today. Congratulations on 16 years with A-1 Self Storage! Has your job changed since you first joined?
Corina: Yes, it definitely has! I feel we do a pretty good job at keeping up with trends and technology.
Afton: Do you have advice for anyone thinking about working in self storage for the first time?
Corina: Always hope for the best, but expect the unexpected from time to time. Enjoy those days when everything goes your way!
Afton: Please tell us about a customer who left an impression on you.
Corina: I have a customer who lost her husband in 2014, and I lost my aunt the same year. We both supported one another through conversation during our grieving. It was very therapeutic for us. I definitely appreciate our friendship.
Afton: What is it like to be a part of the self storage industry as long as you have?
Corina: Some days can be challenging, and others smooth sailing. The storage industry is very interesting, we interact with a variety of people on a daily basis, and even our auction buyers can be an interesting bunch. My overall experience here has been pretty good.
Afton: Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in becoming a manager or making self storage their career?
Corina: Always keep in mind that there are reasons people need storage, not every reason is going to be business related. They might need storage due to the loss of a job, home, or a loved one. Be prepared to have a listening ear and a positive attitude; this just might be what the person needs at that very moment.
Afton: Do you have any customers that you’ve grown close with over the years?
Corina: I do. I think it’s so nice that when they see that I’m not here for a day or two, they will literally call the office to check on me. That means a lot to me.
Afton: How is your life different now compared to 16 years ago?
Corina: Well, I was in my twenties, so I’m pretty sure it was carefree and fabulous! These days, much more responsible, but still fabulous! I have come a long way and grown so much. I definitely have my family to thank for their endless love and support throughout my life.
Afton: Do you have anyone you would like to give a shout out to?
Corina: I would like to give a shout-out to the Bascom Manager, Louis! He has been with the company almost as long as I have, so we definitely have a bond. Thanks for all your support throughout the years!
