Here at A-1 Self Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our customers is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with team member Claudia Almaguer, who is celebrating her 3-year anniversary with A-1 Self Storage.
Claudia works at various A-1 Self Storage facilities in Southern California.
Colby: How did you start working in self storage?
Claudia: I was working for another self storage company when I saw an opening for A-1 Self Storage, and decided to apply.
Colby: How does A-1 Self Storage compare to the other place you were at?
Claudia: It wasn’t a huge transition. I was already familiar with storage, it was just learning new rules and management.
Colby: What’s the most important thing you’ve learned while working for A-1 Self Storage?
Claudia: The most important thing I have learned while working here is to prioritize. At times, there can be many things going on at the same time. It is important to know what needs to be addressed first.
Colby: What is your favorite self storage story?
Claudia: I love it when we have prospective tenants come in to rent, because they are storing their belongings because they are traveling cross country or going to other countries. Older couples especially, because they’re retired, the kids are gone, it’s really awesome. There was a girl who came in recently who is moving to Mexico to be with her boyfriend for the next six months. She said that when she comes back she’ll bring pictures. It sounds like something they were really looking forward to.
Colby: What are your hobbies when you aren’t at your facility?
Claudia: I enjoy going on hikes, spending time at the beach, and having daughter and mother dates with my munchkin, Vicky.
Colby: What’s your favorite thing to do in the city?
Claudia: Going on evening walks at Balboa Park, Old Town, Coronado, Mission Bay, and Embarcadero. Our city has a lot beautiful places to visit.
Colby: What’s your favorite restaurant in town?
Claudia: Honestly, I don't have a favorite restaurant in particular. I do however, would choose to eat my mom’s food over any restaurant.
Colby: I know this is probably a hard question to answer, but what is your favorite dish that she makes?
Claudia: Oh wow, that is a really hard question! I love her chile rellenos. Maybe it’s just because she’s my mom and I grew up with it, but I love how she makes them. They’re so good!
Colby: Is she the type to safeguard her recipes?
Claudia: Not really. I’m sure she’d love it if I spent time with her in the kitchen. Whenever I cook, I stick to the recipe. She just makes it up and it comes out really good every time.
Colby: Would you like to give a shout-out to anybody?
Claudia: Yes! To all my East County co-workers! Thank you team for putting up with me for three years. Haha!
