Here at A-1 Self Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our customers is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with team member Rey Apple, who is celebrating his 5-year anniversary with A-1 Self Storage.
You can meet Rey at various A-1 Self Storage facilities around Southern California.
Colby: What year anniversary are you celebrating? How long have you been with A-1 Self Storage?
Rey: This is my five-year anniversary.
Colby: Your five-year, that’s a bit of milestone I’d say!
Rey: I had been with the company prior to that, but I took a leave of absence at a point and then I came back.
Colby: Five consecutive years now, gotcha. So, your position is that of a Floater, so you kind of bounce around from one facility to the next. If someone was going to be hired at A-1 Self Storage tomorrow and they had no experience, what sort of advice would you give them?
Rey: As a Floater, every store will be different and you are going to face a lot of different types of situations. For me, the best thing to do is to ask the individual store managers how they like things done. Flexibility is important.
Colby: Yeah, I’m sure that’s case. Tell me a little bit about the industry when you first got into storage. Was it what you were expecting, and what was it that brought you back since you took some time off from the company?
Rey: At first, it was exciting to work with so many different types of people and you are working directly with the public, so customer service is important. When I left, I really missed seeing and interacting with the people, so here I am back in storage. I love the job.
Colby: Very cool. Do you have any self storage stories that you like to share if people ever ask you what your job is like?
Rey: Oh yeah, I do. One time someone came by right when we were closing. He said that he had to get his stuff in to storage and had no other place to go. So I decided to stay and help them, and they were really happy, and I was happy that I could help them out. It felt rewarding to really help someone in their time of need.
Colby: Oh, that’s great. I like that. Rey, let’s talk about you a little bit. What are some of your favorite hobbies and what keeps you busy when you are not at work?
Rey: One of my favorite things to do is to get together with some friends and go travel somewhere. I love traveling.
Colby: What’s your favorite place that you have traveled to?
Rey: My favorite place to go is Ensenada in Mexico.
Colby: So that’s the number one spot?
Rey: Yeah that’s my favorite. One day, I drove to Las Vegas and that was a blast. It’s about a six-hour drive.
Colby: There you go! In general, what’s one of your favorite restaurants near the facility? Maybe somewhere you would go to celebrate something like an anniversary?
Rey: I don’t know if I have a favorite, but I do really love the Olive Garden.
Colby: Last question. Rey. Is there anybody that you would like to give a shout out to that has helped you out in the time you have been working there?
Rey: My friend Louis, he’s pretty cool and he’s helped me a lot.
