Here at A-1 Self Storage, we know our success is due to our wonderful team. The care they give our customers is unparalleled and we want to highlight their milestones along the way. Below is an interview with Edson, who is celebrating his 6-year anniversary with A-1 Self Storage.
Edson works at A-1 Self Storage in Chula Vista, California.
Jodie: Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today about your time with A-1 Self Storage. Has your job changed since you first joined the company?
Edson: When I first started I was being trained at our Mira Mesa location with a relatively new store. I was there for about a year, and then I transferred over to our Midtown location. Now I am here at the Chula Vista location.
Jodie: Do you have advice for anyone thinking about working in self storage for the first time?
Edson: Be prepared to try and cheer people up! I know for a lot of people moving is pretty stressful. Having to call a moving truck, having to schedule a time to put your items in the storage facility, etc. We kinda try to make that part at least a little better for them. We kind of just try and make things easier.
Jodie: What is the most expensive or unusual thing you’ve ever had stored at your facility?
Edson: One of a kind furniture that you wouldn’t see anywhere, just tacky, gaudy furniture.
Jodie: Can you tell us about a time that self storage changed someone's life?
Edson: I like surprising them with the best deal...saving them more money than they thought they would. Kind of like buying clothing, getting to the register and finding out its 50% off!
Jodie: Do you have any mentors at A-1 Self Storage?
Edson: Dave Ratliff, Operations Manager. You would think one would be intimidated by his role, but I am definitely comfortable. In training, he helped me out and still comes by to visit me. He is also a good listener.
Jodie: What do you like to do outside of work?
Edson: When I was going to UC-Riverside I was studying Film Production, Media Studies, and Journalism. I was doing a lot of writing back then (I still do a lot of writing now) but back then it was for school. Now I do a lot of writing in my spare time. I live by Babolla Park and I do have an annual pass and I go to the museums on my days off. I like to be active and work out at the gym down the street, the beach...typical San Diego stuff.
