Colby: So Louis, what’s the story behind you getting started at A-1?
Louis: I was 23 or 24 and I was working full time somewhere else and they cut my hours. So I applied to A-1 and a couple days later I called the area manager. The next day she hired me and I moved over to this area. I’ve been here for 15 years.
Colby: Cool! What’s the best thing you’ve learned since working at A-1 Self Storage? Probably a lot of things over 15 years.
Louis: Yeah, you know, it’s crazy to look at my life now. When I started this job, I was single, a bachelor living the good life. Now I’ve been married for 13 years. I have two kids now. So, as a person, I’ve grown as a man. I have customers that are still here, in fact, the first customer I ever rented a storage unit to is still here!
Colby: So do you have any self-storage stories that you like to tell? Any funny things that have happened over 15 years?
Louis: Well there’s a lot of chances for one-on-one relationships with the customers. Sometimes they’re having a terrible day and you sit down and, out of nowhere, an hour goes by and you’re having this great conversation with somebody. It makes you feel good to help someone else out by listening. Sometimes they’ll rent for 5 years, disappear for 3-4 years, and then come back because of the experience they had.
Colby: What are your favorite hobbies?
Louis: I train in mixed martial arts, like UFC fighting stuff.
Colby: Right on! What weight class?
Louis: Light heavyweight.
Colby: Cool! What’s your favorite thing to do in town?
Louis: Spending time with my family on Sunday. I work Tuesday - Saturday, so Sunday and Monday are my family days. Bike riding and going to the movies on Sunday together.
Colby: What’s your favorite restaurant close to work?
Louis: WingStop, I had it today.
Colby: Last question: Anybody you’d like to give a shout out to?
Louis: I guess I’ll give a shout out to Terry Zdenek. She’s the store manager that worked with me through all my times of being young and dumb and she stuck by me this whole time. I really appreciate her friendship and the love she always had for me.
Colby: Thank you, Louis!
