Colby: What year is this for you?
Valentin: Year 8. I was hired 2/1/2010.
Colby: What was it about A-1 that made you want to work here and get into this industry?
Valentin: I was looking for a change. I’d been working at Bank of America for four years. I wanted to get into one-on-one customer service. We had that at the bank, but it was a very fast moving pace. I wanted to help people, because a lot of people come here and have no idea what they need. So I use my customer service skills to make a difference.
Colby: What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned about the industry in your time there?
Valentin: A little bit of everything. I went from not knowing what a simple 5x5 was to now, I can tell what people need right away just talking to them.
Colby: Over the years, do you have any stories you like to tell about the experiences you’ve had while you’ve been here?
Valentin: Something interesting about my experience is that the very first person I rented a storage space to is still a current tenant with us. Not only does he rent, but his son also rents storage space from us now.
Colby: Very cool. Outside of self-storage, what are some of your hobbies?
Valentin: I love spending time with my sons. I have two boys. Also sports.
Colby: What’s your favorite sport?
Valentin: Baseball, ever since I was a little kid. I’m a Dodgers fan. I bleed blue.
Colby: What is your favorite restaurant near the facility? Is there any good food in that part of North Hollywood?
Valentin: Close by the storage facility? Denny’s. You can’t go wrong with that. I’m a simple guy and it’s between both of the stores I work at.
Colby: I love Denny’s myself. Nothing better late at night than to have some breakfast.
Valentin: Even just to go sit and have dessert. We do that on family nights, we’ll drive to Denny’s and have some ice cream and hot chocolate.
Colby: Is there anyone you’d like to give a shout out to that’s helped you in your 8 years?
Valentin: I’d love to give a shout out to not only my friend, but my manager, and mentor Yavone Garcia. He’s the manager at the Vanowen store where I first started back in 2010.
