One of the park's most popular trails is the Borrego Trail, which takes hikers through a scenic canyon lined with coastal sage scrub and chaparral. Another is the Red Rock Canyon Trail, with its stunning views of the park's red rock formations. Horseback riding trails include the Santiago Trail and Cactus Hill Trail.   • Serrano Creek Trail


Serrano Creek Trail is a relatively easy 5.5 mile hiking and biking trail, a lovely scenic walk or ride to enjoy any day of the week. This trail is surrounded by natural beauty. You can enter the trailhead at the end of Bake Parkway, where there is a parking area available for visitors. From there, the trail begins with a gradual ascent through the chaparral landscape before descending into a lush riparian area along Serrano Creek. On your trek, you'll come to bridges that cross the creek and take you through some of the park’s most picturesque areas. Take a break at one of the many benches strategically placed along the way.   • Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park


Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park is a 4,500-acre wilderness near Lake Forest, with hills, canyons, and streams. It's home to a variety of wildlife and plant species, and is a popular destination for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. In fact, over 30 miles of trails wind through the park, including the West Ridge Trail, with stunning views of the hills and ocean, and the Wood Canyon Trail, which winds through a picturesque oak woodland. Shorter trails include the Dripping Cave Trail and the Wood Canyon Vista Trail.


  • O’Neill Regional Park


Just outside Lake Forest, you'll find the beautiful O'Neill Regional Park. This 4,000-acre park in Trabuco Canyon offers activities including camping, hiking, picnicking, and horseback riding. With 125 campsites, including both RV and tent camping, you'll get to stay in a natural setting surrounded by hills, trees, and streams. The park features over 23 miles of trails to hike and explore, ranging from easy to strenuous with lovely views of the surrounding hills and valleys. There are also trails specifically designated for horseback riding.


  • The Borrego Trail


In the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains in Lake Forest you'll find The Borrego Trail, a popular hiking trail offering a moderate hike with beautiful views of the surrounding hills and canyons. The trail begins at the end of Saddleback Ranch Road, and is an approximately 3.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of around 500 feet.
